Bernhard Moosbauer
No man’s land
Bernhard Moosbauer (*1969, lebt in Berlin) arbeitet seit 2001 als freischaffender Fotograf, DJ und Medienkünstler. Er studierte Fotografie und Medienkunst an der Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst bei Timm Rautert und Helmut Mark, wo er 2001 sein Diplom machte. Öffentliche Aufmerksamkeit bekam Moosbauer 2010 mit seinen Pudelportraits »Champions«, die in verschiedenen Ausstellungen und Magazinen zu sehen waren.
In der dreiteiligen Installation »No man’s Land« thematisiert Moosbauer die Absurdität von Krieg anhand der Konflikte im ehemaligen Jugoslawien. Inspiriert durch das gleichnamige, beinahe bühnenstückhafte Filmepos von Danis Tanovic und eine 2-monatige Reise ins ehemalige Kriegsgebiet, hat er eine Arbeit geschaffen, deren Teile sich zu einem Gesamtkunstwerk verdichten.
Der erste Teil der Installation sind Abbildungen von fotografierenden Touristen, die der Fotograf auf der Reise gesammelt hat. Der zweite Teil besteht aus grossformatigen, surreal wirkenden Bildern verschiedener Bauten der jugoslawischen Ausprägung Sozialistischer Moderne. Die Soundebene als dritter Teil verbindet die beiden anderen ästhetisch und inhaltlich. Zu hören sind in zufälliger Reihenfolge abgespielte, absurde Mono- und Dialoge aus dem zugrundeliegenden Film.

No man’s land
Bernhard Moosbauer (*1969) lives in Berlin and has been working as a freelance photographer since 2001. He received his Masters in Photography and Media Arts in 2001 from the HGB Leipzig where he studied with Timm Rautert and Helmut Mark. His most acclaimed series “Champions” from 2010 – a black and white series of portraits of poodles – was shown in different exhibitions and magazines.
In his installation “No man’s land” Moosbauer shows the absurdity of war on the basis of the conflicts in former Yugoslavia. Moosbauer took his inspiration for this installation from the stage-like film “no man’s land” by Danis Tanovic as well as traveling trough the former war zones for two months. He has created three parts that together form one piece of work.
The first part of the installation consists of depictions of tourists that Moosbauer took whilst travelling. The tourists are caught in the moment of taking pictures of something. The second part of the installation consists of large-scale black and white architectural images of different deserted buildings in the Yugoslavian countryside. These buildings are more ruins than anything else and seem eerie, surreal. They also show the Yugoslavian idea of social modernism in architecture. The sound piece connects the two first parts of the installation aesthetically as well as thematically. The viewer can hear different monologues and dialogues from the movie “No man´s land” that are played randomly.
