Jung A Kim – Reminiscence

Die koreanische Künstlerin Jung A Kim beschreibt ihren intensiven Bezug zur Fotografie: »Durch die Fotografie habe ich das Gefühl, die Welt zu sein. Ich nehme mit den Augen und dem Herzen wahr und beginne, ein Mensch zu sein.« Ihre Bilder gleichen tagebuchähnlichen Aufzeichnungen, die ihr Inneres reflektieren und die essenziellen Beziehung zwischen Mensch und Natur auf poetische Art umsetzen. Es liegt im Wesen der Erinnerung, der Reminiszenz, die Vergangenheit wieder ans Licht zu bringen. In der heutigen, medienorientierten Zeit ist dies ein wichtiger Aspekt für die Fotografin. Durch ihre Bilder kann sich die immaterielle Welt der Gedanken und Erinnerung in der Realität manifestieren. Ihre Fotografien sind mitunter als Metapher für zunächst übersehene Erinnerungen zu verstehen, die sich in Form von Bildern ihren Weg zu uns bahnen. Die Aufnahmen erzählen die Geschichte der Künstlerin, sprechen von dem Verhältnis zwischen Mensch und natürlicher Schöpfung und sind letztlich kleine Bruchstücke des Lebens.
Jung A Kim (geboren 1978) lebt und arbeitet in Berlin und Seoul. Kim studierte an der BTK Berlin und schloss ihr Studium 2014 mit einem BA in Fotografie an der CAU in Seoul ab. Sie arbeitete als artist in residence in Finnland und Frankreich (Studio Vortex von Antoine d’Agata) und stellte in Deutschland, Finnland, der Schweiz und Japan aus. Beim Portfolio Review des 6. Europäischen Monats der Fotografie wurde sie mit dem 1. Preis ausgezeichnet. 2015 wurde Jung A Kim vom Musée de l’Elysée als eine der 50 aufstrebenden Fotografen ausgewählt.

The Korean photographer Jung A Kim describes her intense relationship with photography: »Through photography I have the feeling of being the world. I perceive things with my eyes and my heart and start to be a human being.« Her pictures are diary-like records that reflect her innermost thoughts and poetically capture the essential relationship between man and nature. Reminiscence serves to bring the past to light. In today’s media-oriented times, this is an important aspect for the artist. By means of photography the intangible world of thoughts and memories can manifest itself in reality. Jung A Kim’s photographs can in some cases be understood as a metaphor for recollections that were initially overlooked but which find their way back to us in the form of images. The pictures tell the artist’s own story but also speak to the universal ties between humankind and all of Creation, ultimately presenting us with small fragments of life.
Jung A Kim (born.1978) lives and works in Berlin and Seoul, Korea.
She graduated 2014 with a BA in Photography at CAU, Seoul.
2013 she also studied at BTK in Berlin.
Jung A Kim was awarded 1st Prize, at The 6th European Month of Photography Portfolio Review.
She worked as an artist in residence in Finland and France (studio vortex by Antoine d’agata) and exhibited internationally with group and solo shows in Berlin, Finland, Switzerland, Japan and others.
In 2015 Jung A Kim was selected by Musée de l’Élysée, Switzerland as one of the 50 emerging photographers (The third edition of this project – reGeneration3).
A prestigious prize for upcoming artist in the world of photography. Every five years, the Musée de l’Elysée dedicates itself to emerging photographers from around the world who just graduated.
