„Der Titel der Ausstellung ist zugleich die Postleitzahl der Stadt Hilden im Westen Deutschlands, in der ich aufgewachsen bin. Als Kind träumte ich immer davon eines Tages für die deutsche Fußballnationalmannschaft zu spielen, zog dann aber mit 15 in die USA. Schließlich wurde das Bildermachen zu meinem Beruf und nach 18 Jahren in den USA, Taiwan und China bin ich erst kürzlich wieder nach Deutschland gezogen. Ich wollte die Orte und Menschen, die ich aus meiner Kindheit kannte, fotografieren, so wie sie jetzt aussehen. Und sie dann alten Fotos von damals gegenüberstellen. Die meisten der Fotos sind von meiner Mutter, die früher immer nur mich fotografierte. Die Arbeit ist so vor allem eine persönliche Widmung an den Menschen, der mich großgezogen hat.“

Li-Han Lin

Li-Han Lin (*1977) ist ein Taiwanesisch-Deutscher Fotograf, der in Hilden in der Nähe von Düsseldorf geboren und aufgewachsen ist. Mit 15 ging Li-Han in die USA, wo er 2004 seinen Abschluss in Fotografie am Art Center Collge of Design in Pasadena machte. Seit seinem Abschluss hat Li-Han in New York, Los Angeles und Taiwan gelebt und hat unter anderem für Monocle Magazine, Vogue Japan, GQ Japan und Nulon Japan gearbeitet. Seine Arbeiten wurden unter anderem in der S+S Gallery in Taipei ausgestellt und er ist Preisträger des Samsung NX project 2012. Die Ausstellung ist seine erste Einzelausstellung in Deutschland. Li-Han lebt und arbeitet zur Zeit in Berlin.

„The title of the exhibition 40723 refers to the postal code of Hilden, a little town in Germany where I was born and raised. As a kid growing up in this small town, I always dreamt of playing soccer fort he German National team one day. Yet at the age of 15 I moved to the United States and ended up taking photographs for a living. I just recently moved back to Germany after having lived abroad for 18 years in the US, Taiwan and China. I wanted to document the people and the place of present days and juxtapose the photographs with photos from the past. The portraits are mainly of my mother now, who in the past took photos of me. It is a personal photo tribute to the person that raised me.“

Li-Han Lin

Li-Han Lin (*1977) is a Taiwanese-German photographer who was born and raised in Hilden, Germany before moving to Los Angeles , New York City and Taiwan. He has contributed to Monocle Magazine, Vogue Japan, GQ Japan, Nulon Japan. He has also shown work at the S+S Gallery in Taipei and recently was a winner of the Samsung NX project 2012. He is currently based in Berlin.
